YANINA

Yanina is a sultry and soulful singer/songwriter from Cambridge, MA. From having voice lessons at a young age, encouragement from her parents, inspiration from hip-hop and popular music such as Eminem’s “Mockingbird,” and discipline to develop herself into a well-rounded artist, all contribute to Yanina’s powerhouse voice, ability to dance, and striking presence on stage. She sets out to be self sufficient, involving herself in all aspects of music, including production, business and performance. This enables her to consistently bring her ideas and creations to life. Now a Music Business Major and Recording and Production Minor, Yanina draws from her influences: Lauryn Hill, Lalah Hathaway, Esperanza Spalding, Beyoncé, and Lianne La Havas. Much like these women, Yanina recognizes the lack of representation of women in the entertainment industry. As a proud African-American and Puerto Rican young woman, Yanina specifically recognizes the lack of representation of Afro-Latina women across the globe. The lack of representation inspired and motivated her to create an all women’s artist collective, “SheReins.” They have performed in multiple venues across Europe and continue to develop their collective in Boston today. Through “SheReins” and her original music, Yanina hopes to bring awareness to social and political injustices, and touch upon the real truths that many face in life. Yanina is currently working on her debut EP, yet to be titled, that is expected to be released summer of 2018.
